HOW TO GROW CARROT

Till dry soil 6-10” deep, clumpy soil does not produce strait carrots. Direct sow 2-3 months before last frost. Re-sow every 3 weeks until the 4th of July to ensure continued harvest. Thin carrots to 1-1” when 2” tall or patch will become over grown. Maintain moisture during germination and growth. Cover bed with compost or burlap bag until germination. Or mix seed with fine, moistened, weed free compost in a container, stir occasionally until seed begins to show signs of germination, then sow and water. When carrots 6-8” tall hill 1-2” soil around roots to prevent green tops. May overwinter in the ground if soil does not freeze. Soil pH 5.6-7.0. Hardiness zones 3. Biennial.
