Plant the bulbs 4-6” apart, in the ground, container garden, or raised bed in the Fall or Spring, around the same time that you’d plant garlic in your climate. They thrive in many environments! Press the bulbs 1-2” into the soil with the pointed end of the bulb facing up towards the sun. Bulbs will sprout quickly in the fall or spring, and will thrive with adequate water and fertile soil. Mulch with straw. Even if their green tops are weighted down with heavy snow in the winter, they will sprout back. Walking onions will spread through the garden bed. The onions can be divided and propagated at the base of the plant or via the small bulbils that form on the top of the green onions. Hardiness zones 3-10. Perennial.
