Tulsi Temperate

Ocimum africanum

HOW TO GROW TULSI

Sow seeds in springtime indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost, or sow seeds directly in late spring when nights are above 65˚F. Surface sow , pressing in firmly, keep moist but not wet. Harvest the plant for drying when the purple flowers are just beginning to appear, as leaves contain the most essential oils at that time. Plants will branch where flowering tips are harvested, and grow more throughout the season for ongoing harvests until frost. Dry herb bunches by hanging from ceiling or lay on screens in a dark, dry, ventilated location. About 120 days from direct seeding until plants are ready for seed saving. Soil pH 6.1-8.5. Hardiness zones 7-11. Annual.

Days from maturity calculated from the date of seeding. Average 22,400-142,00 seeds per ounce. Usual seed life: 5 years.
