Prefers slightly alkaline depleted soils, no standing water, will grow in gravel. Creeping rhizomatous perennial easily propagated by division in early spring. Vigorous self seeder. Makes a good companion with woodier Artemisia tridentata. Germination irregular, often several months. Drought tolerant. Surface sow, press into soil, do not cover. Soil pH 6.6-7.8.
