HOW TO GROW NARROWLEAF PLANTAIN
Sow seeds on the surface of the soil, and keep moist until germination. Transplant or thin to 6” to 1’ apart. Grows well with grass, and will self-seed. The plants thrive in drought conditions but also in wet climates. Plants grow as weeds on lawns, gardens, and open disturbed ground where animals graze. Hardiness zones 5-9. Perennial.

Narrowleaf Plantain is a fairly low growing perennial herb hardy to USDA zone 5 and thrives in all soil types. Plantain is highly regarded for medicine and forage. Its name comes from the long slender leaves, as opposed to Broad Leaf Plantain whose leaves are wider. Plantain is well known for its healing properties and is said to relieve the pain and irritation from bites and stings, as well as heal minor small cuts and wounds. It is also said to help draw out thorns, splinters and other small embedded objects. Plantain seed husks are the same Psyllium husks that can be purchased in health food stores and serve the same purpose. Seeds are also edible and nutritious. Plantain leaves are a great nourishing and medicinal herb that can be added in your meals, so long as you remove the fibrous strands or cut the leaves crosswise to sever the ribs. Plantain self seeds in the garden readily and makes an excellent living mulch and mineral rich companion for other plants.
