HOW TO GROW QUEEN ANNES LACE
Till dry soil 6-10” deep, clumpy soil does not produce strait carrots. Direct sow 2-3 months before last frost. Re-sow every 3 weeks until the 4th of July to ensure continued harvest. Thin carrots to 1-1” when 2” tall or patch will become over grown. Maintain moisture during germination and growth. Cover bed with compost or burlap bag until germination. Or mix seed with fine, moistened, weed free compost in a container, stir occasionally until seed begins to show signs of germination, then sow and water. When carrots 6-8” tall hill 1-2” soil around roots to prevent green tops. May overwinter in the ground if soil does not freeze. Soil pH 5.6-7.0. Hardiness zones 3. Biennial.

Medicinally, wild carrot is an aromatic herb, acts as a diuretic, soothes digestive track, supports the liver and removal of waste by the kidneys, tea made from roots counters kidney stone formation. Root used to encourage delayed menstruation, can induce uterine contractions. Seeds are anti-fertility, 1 teaspoon chewed morning after, discourages implantation of egg in uterus, slippery uterus, Terpenoid oils in seeds block progesterone synthesis. Taproot useful to aerate compacted soils. Found in dry or overgrazed fields. Some consider it an invasive weed, readily crosses with cultivated carrot. Named after Anne, Queen of Great Britain and Anne of Denmark. Tiny red flower at the center of the inflorescence is colored by anthocyanin and is to attract insects. Also known as Wild Carrot.
