Sow in spring in cold frame. Sow indoors 10-12 weeks before last frost indoors and then plant out after last frost. Strong germinator, start a few seeds to begin so you do not have too many plants. If plants are small, grow them on in the greenhouse or cold frame for their first winter. Valerian seed’s shape and weight make the seed difficult to completely completely clean. Seeds require light to germinate, press into soil, do not cover. Soil pH 6.5-7.5. Hardiness zones 4-9. Perennial.
Days from maturity calculated from the date of seeding. Average 40,500 seeds per ounce. There are no Federal germination standards for commercially sold herb seeds. Usual seed life 1-2 years.
